MTF
Modulation transfer function is also called spatial contrast transfer function and spatial frequency contrast sensitivity function. It reflects the ability of the optical system to transfer the modulation degree of various frequency sinusoidal objects as a function of spatial frequency.
Generally, the contrast of the output image through the optical system is always worse than the contrast of the input image, and the change of this contrast is closely related to the spatial frequency characteristics. The ratio of the contrast between the output image and the input image is called the modulation transfer function (MTF), that is, the definition of MTF is:
MTF=contrast of output image/contrast of input image
Because the contrast of the output image is always less than the contrast of the input image, the MTF value is between 0 and 1.
Modulation transfer function can be used to represent the characteristics of the optical system. The larger the MTF, the better the imaging quality of the system.
