Field of view, astronomical term for field of view. Refers to the range of the sky that can be seen with a telescope or binoculars. The field of view represents the maximum range that the camera can observe, usually expressed in angle. The larger the field of view, the larger the observation range.
For example, some telescopes or binoculars have a field of view of 50 degrees, while others have a field of view of 58 degrees. The latter can capture a wider range of scenery at the same distance than the former. The field of view of a general telescope or binoculars is around 52 degrees, and can even reach 180 degrees or 360 degrees (the base of the telescope or binoculars is fixed, and the lens can rotate in one circle).
Field of view is the range of vision of the human eye.
The field of view is usually expressed in kilometers (observable width) and converted into angles (angle of view). There are three common ways of expressing it: one is to use the angle directly, such as angle of view: 9°; the second is the visible range at kilometers, such as Field of view: 158m/1000m; the third is feet at thousands of yards used by some foreign countries, which is actually similar to the second method, such as Field of vies: 288ft/1000y.
Generally speaking, the larger the aperture and the lower the magnification, the larger the field of view, but the design of the eyepiece is also critical. You will usually see numbers like 7°, 8°, etc. on the telescope body, which indicates the angular field of view that the telescope can observe.
The lens under test may not be able to observe the scale with the naked eye due to different focal lengths. A convex lens with appropriate focal length can be added as an auxiliary lens to observe the measurement results of the field of view angle of the wide-angle collimator. When measuring, the lens under test should be moved forward and backward along the optical axis until the observed angle is the largest, which is the field of view angle of the lens under test. The relationship between field of view and focal length: Generally speaking, the larger the field of view, the shorter the focal length.
